Pale buff earthenware, thickly potted and tin-glazed on both sides. Painted in bright blue. Irregularly-shaped four-sided fragment of a dish, with part of a circular depression underneath. A bird standing to the right of a plant over two horizontal lines. Below is part of an inscription 'MARIA.N...'. The glaze has crazed on both sides.
History note: According to a label accompanying a group of fragments including this one given by R.C. Bosanquet they were 'Mostly bought at Orvieto; some pieces (marked P at back) from Perugia. The Orvieto pieces, with a few exceptions were found in excavating foundations for houses near the Cathedral.'
