Recto, upper left, ?shading trial. The upper sketch is within drawn graphite rectangular border. There are several variations from the final design. In the present drawing, the knight holds his hands before his body, and the room visible behind is larger with an open fireplace visible in the background, similar to the room in final design, p. 134, Kelmscott Chaucer.
