Two preliminary studies for the Kelmscott Chaucer. Within individual drawn rectangular graphite borders. Both studies differ from final design. The upper study places the castle rear left, Grisilde centre and trees to right. The lower sketch places the castle in background, Grisilde nearly full-face, upon the road between earth emankments in foreground.
