History note: (?) John Humble; his sale, 11 April 1812, lot 45; (?) William Hastings, his sale, 27 March 1840, lot 87; James Morrison, by 1857; and then by descent to the Basildon Pictures Settlement at Sudely Castle; Simon Dickinson Ltd, London, on behalf of an Argentinian collector living in New York, stopped at export and acquired by the Museum
