Compiled by Hugh Wm. Davies
Embraces the period 1475 to 1692; 2 items respectively dated 1705 and 1728 are included as containing woodcuts belonging to a much earlier period. The majority of the books were printed in France, a few from presses at Louvain, Antwerp, La Haye, Middleburg, and Geneva being included, as most of them are in the French language. The main portion of the collection consists of books with cuts, which have been chosen as representative of book-illustration in France. cf. Pref.
