Le chef de Bataillon de cappe à la tête de deux compagnies d'élite du 53éme d'une Brigade de sapeurs du génie et d'une colone de travailleurs franchit la brêche et s'empare du Bastion 7. (Siège du Rome, 21 juin, 1849) Au signal donné là 11 h. du soir par le Colonel Niel (aujourd'hui Marèchal de France) eurent lieu les assauts du Bastion 6, de la Courtine 6-7 et du Bastion 7, l'ennemi à cet instant alluma des feux de Bengale sur sa deuxiéme ligne de défense. Na. Les colonnes de travailleurs étaient composées de Soldats d'élite des 16ème et 25ème léger.
