Bowl and cover. Hard-paste porcelain painted in dark underglaze blue and turquoise, green, yellow, iron-red and aubergine enamels with details in black. The bowl has flared, almost conical sides and rests on a high, very slightly tapered ring foot. The cover is of gently domed form with a ring-knop to match the footring, the underside of the rim is unglazed to rest on the bowl. Both pieces have lightly notched rims and exteriors vigorously painted with a continuous scene of two powerful dragons, one green and the other yellow, pursuing 'flaming pearls' in iron-red amongst clusters of multi-coloured cloud scrolls, above a sea of foaming, crested waves pencilled in underglaze blue. The interior is entirely plain.
