Jar and cover. Hard-paste porcelain painted in underglaze blue, iron-red, green yellow, turquoise, aubergine, blue and black enamels. The ovoid body is painted with a cluster of flowering tree peony in blue and iron-red, prunus and lily growing round an outcrop of patchwork-like rockwork in green, blue and aubergine; there are two birds on the reverse in flight above iron-red roses growing round a smaller ornamental rock. There is a honeycomb border in underglaze blue round the base and a pale green-ground band of yellow and aubergine lotus meander round the shoulders. The domed cover has a central flowerhead encircled by a florette-diaper band reserved with lozenge and 'pearl' vignettes.
