<zitherlike chordophones>

Scope note

Collocates descriptors for a broad class of chordophones consisting of a string bearer, typically a soundboard, one or more strings, and no neck. Although this whole class is sometimes referred to as zithers, use "zithers" only for the particular modern plucked chordophones developed in the Alpine region of Europe.
