Description

Linen fragment embroidered in polychrome silks in darning, chain and double running stitch. A group of embroideries, worked in bold colours and almost crudely drawn. There is a large central medallion and the stylized flower heads are possibly a version of the eight-pointed star motif. One also finds small bird and floral sprig motifs on this fragment.

Note

The eight pointed star motif is commonly found on Ottoman textiles and ceramics, whilst the bird and sprig motif are probably in the islands traditional local idiom.
