Linen sampler embroidered with polychrome silks (mainly blue and red) in pattern darning and running stitch. One edge has a selvedge the others are either damaged or incomplete. The sampler is mounted on a linen backing. There is a great variety of patterns present on this sampler including a repertoire of 'X' and 'S' interlacing patterns, geometrical motifs and bands as 'spot motifs'.

The patterns found on this sampler are very close to those found on fragments of clothing and household linen of a similar date.
