Soft-paste porcelain cup, painted in enamels in Kakiemon style, and gilt
Soft-paste porcelain cup, painted in turquoise, blue, yellow, and red enamel-colours and a little gold. Circular with fluted sides and scalloped rim; flattened scroll handle. Decorated in Kakiemon style with a red tiger watching an insect, and a red dragon amid flowering plants; inside the rim, a red and green ribbon border.
History note: Dr and Mrs Hugh Statham; Dr Statham died 1967; Mrs Statham died 1970; their daughter, Miss Beryl Statham by whom lent anonymously in 1988 (Statham Loan 7-1988). Bequeathed by Miss Statham, 1990, accepted by H.M. Government in lieu of Inheritance Tax and allocated to the Fitzwilliam Museum
