Use for the pure metallic element having symbol Au and atomic number 79; soft, heavy, chemically inactive, yellow metal, considered as a precious metal since ancient times, and serving in many cultures as the basis of material trade values. Use also for this metal as processed and formed, usually in combination with other substances, to make various objects and materials.
