Hard-paste buscuit porcelain bust supported on a circular socle and square pedestal with moulded edgs which are both glazed. The socle is decorated with slanting gold lines and a broad band round its base, and the pedestal has gold lines on the edges of the moulding. The back of the bust is inscribed in impressed lettering: 'F. NICOLAI./No I

Note

This bust was modelled by Johann Christof Rombrich (d. 1794) after a plaster bust which had been sent by Nicolai to Lessing with the information that it had been taken from a life mask.
