Seated Putto with a Column
Production: Gerhard, Hubert
Copper alloy, probably bronze, cast, and gilt.
Copper alloy, probably bronze, cast, and gilt. The heavily cast putto balances the Tuscan column on top of his left leg and holds its top with his raised arm in his left hand. His right arm rests by his side, whilst his right foot is slightly raised, resting on his left ankle. His head is turned towards the left as he regards the column.
History note: With Daniel Katz Ltd, London, 1981; purchased through the Abbott Fund, with Grant-in-Aid from the Victoria and Albert Museum, and a contribution from the National Art-Collections Fund (Beatrice Wellic Stuart Bequest Fund).
Purchased with the Abbot Fund and with a contribution from the Beatrice Nellie Stuart Bequest Fund of the National Art Collections Fund and from the Museums and Galleries Commission.
