Description

Silver, parcel-gilt and niello, rectangular with cut corners, decorated with a view, map and shields.

Silver, parcel-gilt and niello, rectangular with cut corners and integral hinge. The flat cover is nielloed with a view of Veliki Oustiug from the left bank of the Sukhona river, above which is a ribbon containing an inscription in Cyrillic. The base is engraved and nielloed with a map of Vologde guberniia (province) a list of neighbouring gubernii (top left) a key to the symbols on the map (top right) a table of distances between twelve towns (bottom right) and the scale in versts (bottom left), all on a matt gilt ground. The sides of the box are engraved and nielloed with shields containing the symbols and names of twelve towns in gaberniia, on a matt gilt ground. The interior is gilt.
