Gilt metal chatelaine with a grey and white agate etui and a brown aventurine and a blue and brown enamelled thimble case
Gilt metal, cast and chased chateleine, carved brown agate etui with chased gold or gilt metal mounts, a brown aventurine and a blue and brown enamelled thimble case both with gold or gilt metal mounts. The chatelaine comprises two shaped triangular hinged sections; the uppermost with a long spatulate hook. The front is decorated with cherubs and a stork within borders of scrolls and rocaille decoration. Suspended from the top section are two acorn-shaped thimble cases (A & C) with screw off lids (B & E). Suspended from the lower section is an etui (E) with openwork mounts decorated with birds, flowers, leaves and scrolls. The hinged lid has a sprung button clasp set with a brilliant. The fitted interior contains a pair of steel scissors (F), a folding knife (G), an earpick/spoon (H), a pair of tweezers/file (I) and a pair of ivory memorandum leaves hinged with a gilt button (J).
