Gold and enamel; rectangular cushion-shaped with central gold plaque depicting Neptune on an engine turned ground with dark blue enamelled borders
Gold, enamel and glass, rectangular cushion-shaped box with convex oval ends. The box is decorated with engine-turned engraving with, at either end, a band of scrolling foliage and dark blue enamelled flowers. The lid has a recessed hinge and a projecting thumbpiece, which is engraved with foliage and a blue enamelled flower and two leaves. In the centre of the lid, set under glass and surrounded by a blue enamelled border, is a gold plaque depicting Neptune carrying a trident and standing in his shell-shaped carriage which is pulled by two hippocamps.

Relative size of this object is displayed using code inspired by Good Form and Spectacle's work on the British Museum's Waddeson Bequest website and their dimension drawer. They chose a tennis ball to represent a universally sized object, from which you could envisage the size of an object.
