Description

Pata hilt. Carved from a single piece of wood, with a long tubular cuff with a medial ridge, bordered by a double incised line, and a rounded section for the hand carved with eyes, teeth, nose and mane as a lion. Issuing from the mouth of the beast is a round section, capped with an iron ferrule, and slotted to take a wooden practice blade. Inside is hollow, with a narrow aperture for the arm, a thick transverse grip (all carved from the single piece of timber), and a long slot running up the inside
