Description

Jar with loop handles. Stoneware, thrown with applied lugs, and celadon-glazed. This jar has a short wide mouth, the body narrows gradually from the wide bulging shoulder towards the foot, which is very slightly flared. The thick, straight foot-ring has been cut with a knife. The shoulder bears four pairs of applied florets with incised details, originally joined by loops which now have been broken. The jar is otherwise plain and has lost its lid. The glaze is of a subtle jade colour and has a subdued gloss and a fine crackle; the body is fine-grained in texture. The glaze has been wiped from the foot-ring before firing and there are traces of seven fire-clay spur-marks.
