Description

Hard-paste porcelain painted in enamels, and gilt

Hard-paste porcelain, press-moulded, and painted overglaze in blue, green, pale yellow, flesh pink, red, purple, brown, grey enamels. The closed underside is unglazed and has a small circular central ventilation hole. The circular, high rocky mound base has frilled scrolls around the edge, and on top, three applied flowers beween leaves, one blue, and the others red and white and purple and white respectively. The putto stands on his left leg with right knee relaxed. His head is turned to his right and he holds a lyre (upper part missing) in both hands. He wears a laurel wreath over his greyish-brown hair, and is nude apart from a long pale yellow drape with a polychrome floral pattern, and pale grey lining which is held on by a purple strap across his body.
