PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Paper (watermark Briquet no. 15940, Schaffhausen, 1582), i paper flyleaf + 66 fols. (fols. 5r - 66r have contemporary pagination with identical numbers for facing pages: 2-25, 26a, 26b, 27-31, 32 (drawing only), 33 (text only), 34-63; modern foliation 1 – 66 used here) + i paper flyleaf, 306 x 203 mm, text block of widely varying size, 2 – 19 long lines, vertical binding lines and top line only ruled in red ink, one leaf lost after fols. 3, 35.

BINDING: nineteenth century, marbled paper over pasteboards

CONTENTS: fol. 1r Title page; fols. 2v – 3r Metzgertanz of the Butchers; fols. 4r – 66r Annals of the Nuremberg Schönbartläufer for the period 1449 – 1539 on rectos (with eighteenth-century additions) and corresponding drawings of costumes on facing versos.

DECORATION: Double-page drawing of the Metzgertanz of the Butchers (fols. 2v – 3r).

Sixty-two full-page drawings of the Schönbartläufer with arms of captains and occasional Höllen (pageant-sleighs) on same page (fols. 45v, 56v, 57v, 58v, 59v, 60v, 61v, 62v, 63v, 64v) or in lower half of facing text page (fols. 26r, 40r, 41r, 47r, 48r, 49r, 50r, 52r, 53r, 56r, 66r):
