Acts and Epistles
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Parchment, ii paper flyleaves + 78 fols. + ii paper flyleaves, 244 x 167 (170 x 101) mm, 22 long lines, ruled in crayon, running headers from fol. 54v onwards.
BINDING: eighteenth century, blind-stamped calf over pasteboards.
CONTENTS: fols. 1r – 52r Acts, with prologues; fols. 52v – 78r Seven Epistles, with prologues.
ORNAMENTATION: Red, blue or green initials [5 – 12 ll.] with foliate or zoomorphic infill often on green, blue, red and yellow grounds; alternate red and green initials [1 – 2 ll.].
History note: Henry White (bookplate inside upper cover); his sale, Sotheby’s, London, 21 April 1902, lot 2133 (cutting from sale catalogue pasted to first flyleaf at front); Frank McClean (1837 – 1904); his bequest, 1904.
