Tortoise-shell with two miniatures; on the lid a vase of flowers and bird's nest, and inside the lid a portrait of a gentleman

Tortoise-shell set with two miniatures in bodycolour and watercolour on card under glass with gold or gilt metal mounts. The circular box has straight sides and an almost flat lid with gilt metal hinge and beaded rim mounts. The circular miniature in the lid (by Christiaen van Pol) depicts a carved tarracotta vase of flowers, including roses, tulips and delpiniums, next to a bird's nest with two eggs, on a marble slab.
