Historiated initial from an Antiphoner
Artist: Gossi da Gallarate, Bartolomeo
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Parchment, 145 x 144 mm, two lines of fragmentary text ruled in hard point and two fragmentary four-line musical staves ruled in red ink on reverse.
CONTENTS: On reverse, the antiphon for the final psalm at Matins for the First Sunday after Pentecost in the Carthusian rite, Euouae.[Cito eun]tes dicite disc[ipulis eius, quia surrexit Dominus]; the initial D, which would have been on the verso of the leaf, would have opened the responsory for the first lesson at Matins for the Common of Martyrs in the Easter season, Domine iste sanctus habitabit in tabernaculo tuo.
DECORATION: Historiated initial formed of acanthus and laurel leaves in pink, green, blue and red on gold ground: [D] Carthusian monk accompanied by two angels and receiving a book from God.
