Leaf from a Doge’s Commission

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Parchment, 219 x 154 mm, no text on verso.
DECORATION: Full-page oval miniature with recipient holding his commission and kneeling before the Virgin and Child with St Mark behind him, through the window a view of Venice across the lagoon, set within a full border of chiaroscuro gold on brown with foliate and dolphin motifs, and in the lower bar, a cartouche with arms now over-painted in solid blue.
