Collage from a Patent of Nobility
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Parchment, collage 290 x 185 mm, made up of five fragments: Crucifixion miniature with borders 138 x 188 mm, heading ROSOSE/NORBAR 53 x 192 mm, two fragments with diamond-shaped medallions 43 x 36 mm, and border fragment 55 x 185 mm, fragmentary text on reverse amounting to 29 lines, ruled in pink ink.
CONTENTS: Fragmentary text on reverse, mentioning the scribes Juan Fernandez de Salinas and Christoual de Auleztria among the witnesses.
DECORATION: Large miniature of the Crucifixion with Adam’s skull at the foot of the Cross, inscription CHRISTO DE ARENILLAS written in gold ink across the sky, and two floral side borders including floral, acanthus and jewel ornaments on red or gold ground.
ORNAMENTATION: Heading in gold capitals [5-10 ll.] on green, blue and red panels: ROSOSE/NORBAR; floral border on gold ground with shield inscribed BERITAS VINCIT in gold ink on blue ground; two fragments with diamond-shaped medallions enclosing monograms HIS and MAR written in gold ink on blue and red grounds with gold filigree ornament; cadel-like ornament in text margins on reverse.
History note: Two red dots (9 mm diameter) from glue or a stamp and the number 122 pencilled on the reverse
