Henricus Bohic, Distinctiones in libros quinque Decretalium

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Parchment, i paper flyleaf + 146 fols. + i paper flyleaf, 410 x 290 mm (280 x 190 mm), two columns, 60-62 lines, ruled in plummet, quire and leaf signatures, catchwords written diagonally in the centre of lower margins.
BINDING: Nineteenth century, blue leather over wooden boards, with metal pieces probably re-used from earlier binding: corner-pieces (four on each cover), octagonal centre pieces with a cut-out rosette (one on each cover), two catchplates on upper cover, and two clasps attached to blue leather straps on lower cover.
CONTENTS: fols. 1r-146r Henricus Bohic, Distinctiones in libros quinque Decretalium, Commentary on Bk I.
ORNAMENTATION: Gold initial [G, 3 ll.] with blue pen-flourished infill and extensions, space [32 ll.] above it left blank for a column miniature, and three-sided gold and blue bar border with roundels and lozenges surrounded by elaborate red and blue pen-flourished designs, and quarterfoil containing an unidentified coat of arms, or six fetterlocks sable, on a pale gules two fetterlocks sable; blue, green or mauve white-patterned initials [10-12 ll.] on gold grounds, with acanthus infill and extensions (e.g. fols. 26v, 32v, 63v, 68v, 74r, 92r, 127v, 133v) or with infill of interlaced ivy-leaf branches and gold bars extending the full length of the text column and terminating in ivy-leaf branches (e.g. fols. 2r, 11v, 63v, 82r); alternate red and blue penwork initials [2-4 ll.] with blue or red pen-flourished infill and extensions; alternate red and blue paraph marks; calligraphic ascenders extending from top text lines into upper margins.
