Description

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Parchment, collage 350 x 255 mm, miniature 235 x 150 mm, border surrounding miniature 350 x 235 mm, strip added to even out left border 350 x 20 mm, pasted on wood

DECORATION: Full-page miniature of the Crucifixion with the Virgin and St John within a frame containing bust of prophet with open book (top), bust of David with scroll inscribed DIMITERON OPE (right), bust of prophet with scroll inscribed SALANAS PROFETA EST (bottom), and bust of Daniel with scroll inscribed DANIEL (left), the whole pasted onto a leaf with a full foliate border containing medallions with putti, birds, angels, female busts, prophets (including Isaiah and Jeremiah), Annunciation motifs (busts of Archangel blessing, God the Father and the Virgin in upper border), and an erased shield of arms surrounded by cherubim in lower border.

History note: Dr J. Paul Richter (inscription on label formerly attached to the reverse); presented to the Museum by Mrs Constance Goetze in November 1943.
