Historiated initial from a set of Choir books
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Parchment, 195 x 150 mm, two fragmentary lines of text ruled in pale brown ink and two fragmentary four-line musical staves ruled in red ink on reverse.
CONTENTS: The initial M probably opened the Introit of the Mass for the feast of St Mary Magdalene (22 July), Me expectaverunt peccatores; fragmentary text on reverse, […]on est bie[…]t locutus
DECORATION: Historiated initial in pale graded pink on burnished gold ground with floral and acanthus extensions into the margins which also contain gold balls and birds: [M] St Mary Magdalene carried to heaven by four angels.
