Description

'Venetian' sallet, for field use. Of deep, one-piece construction with a rounded, medially-ridged crown, a short 'tail' over neck, and a T-shaped face-opening reinforced around its margin with a flat strip attached by seven round-headed rivets. The lower edge of the helmet has a plain outward turn. The base of the crown is encircled by eighteen externally-flush lining rivets. Beneath them at either side are a further pair of externally flush rivets for the attachment of a pair of chin-straps. A pair of holes high up the front of the crown and a single hole at the rear of the crown may have served to secure a crest.
