  • Text: LA POLKA. / Le peuple Chinois, peuple éminemment observateur et judicieux, ayant remarqué que le dindon, animal d'un tempérament / très flegmatique, semblait pourtant prendre le plus grand plaisir a lever alternativement chaque patte avec un petit mouvement saccadé, se mit / un jour en tête d'imiter cette volaille dans ce genre de divertissement .. De là l'origine d'une danse qui fit immédiatement les délices de la / meilleur société de Pékin et de la banlieue; mais par suite d'un caprice également Chinois cette danse fut nommée Polka tandis que le bon sens, / la grammaire, et les dindons exigeaient qu'elle fût baptisée du nom de Dindonka.
