Description

Verge watch in oval gold and enamel case.

MOVEMENT: Full plate movement engraved 'Jefferys & Jones London No. 2519'. Balance cock with pierced and engraved 'wheel' table', engraved urn at neck, edge of top of table cut away, blued steel end piece with diamond end stone, foot engraved. Polished steel balance. Chased slide plate with regulation dial, marked I to II. Pierced fusee iron post. Polished steel case bolt with angled cylindrical end, in slot in plate, nib under dial. Potance with moulding at end of foot, screwed to plate. Rectangular counter-potance riveted to plate. Pillar plate with four turned pillars having rings at ends. Centre wheel recessed. Third wheel bar. Joint riveted to plate. Under dial engraved '12'. Fusee and chain with set-up clock under dial. Verge escapement. Train planted clockwise.

DIAL: White enamel on copper, three feet. Dotted minute ring, large dots at 5 mins. Vertical Arabic chapters, winding hole at 6 o'clock.

HANDS: The hour hand may be gold, while the minute hand is steel. Though this is probably not the original.

CASE: Oval gold consular. Front with border of white enamelled hearts set in gold, translucent blue enamel over chased design. Centre with an applied crown of silver set with diamonds and red enamel above an applied silver 'A' set with diamonds. On opening the case the movement is set in a flat gold plate with, below the dial, an oval glass over a lock of hair. 'No 1158' is scratched below the memento. Oval pendant enamelled on lower portion back and front, oval top also enamelled front and back, oval stirrup bow.
