Description

Verge, centre seconds, watch in enamelled gold case with pearls.

MOVEMENT: Full plate movement not named. Balance bridge pierced and engraved, star at centre, blued steel end pieced with clear end stone. Brass balance. Silver regulation dial, recessed into plate, with radial Arabic numbers 1 to 4. Raised fixed spring barrel bridge engraved and chased, star in centre, fixed by two screws. Top plate engraved with stylised foliage and hand pointing to the regulation dial. Two blued steel screws with rectangular heads which secured a rim cap. Polished steel case bolt, truncated conical end, in slot in plate, nib through edge. Regulation arbour pivoted in pillar plate, wheel, slide and slide plate under back plate. Escapement, fixed barrel and great wheel between plates. Pillar plates with four plain turned pillars. Sunk centre wheel. Deep ring under-dial. Under-dial, cock for third wheel. Polished steel centre bridge over fourth wheel with pipe for hour wheel. Cock with polished steel end piece for balance. Minute wheel pivoted in top and pillar plate. Polished steel stop work, click to stop wheel. Plate scratched '256' and '63'. Minute wheel scratched 'A B Decl 1853' and 'Dec 1854'. Fixed spring barrel. Cylinder escapement, brass wheel. Centre seconds trains under-dial.

DIAL: White enamel on copper, convex, two feet, counter enamel inscribed '256'. Radial Arabic quarter figures with 'wings' at half-quarters, line minute ring with three dots between minutes, short radial Roman chapters.

HANDS: Gold, light pierced diamond ends and pierced baluster stems. Centre seconds, small spade head and pierced circular counter poise.

CASE: Gold, enamel and pearls. Bezel and back with two rings of pearls, body with polychrome enamel scene of shepherd and shepherdess in Arcadian landscape inside border of gold and enamel, in the style of Watteau. Rectangular pendant enamelled front and back, stamped '63' on side. Plain oval stem, rectangular top enamelled front and back, top stamped 'EJ' and with a griffin's head. Plain bow. Scratched inside back, near hinge, '5.04.s.' Plain inner dome, winding hole at 9 o'clock.
