Skeletonised verge watch in pair case, made for display.

MOVEMENT: Full plate movement with top plate skeletonised and signed around edge 'THOS ATHERTON LIVERPOOL 1533'. Balance cock with replaced solid oval table and original engraved foot, fixed with two screws. Polished steel balance. Silver semi circle slide plate under balance, ring slide with index towards edge of plate, no index scale. Pierced fusee iron post, fusee iron split to provide integral spring. Blued steel case bolt and spring with flat decorative foot, nib in brass edge. Potance and counter-potance riveted to top plate. Pillar plate with three square baluster pillars, centre wheel recessed, third wheel bar. Fusee and chain, tangent set up, barrel end pierced with six arms to expose spring, wound through dial. Verge escapement.

BRASS EDGE: Three feet.

DIAL: White enamel on copper, three feet. Outer 'ladder' minute circle, radial Roman chapters. Winding hole at 4 o'clock.

HANDS: Gold spade hour ad gilt poker minute.

INNER CASE: Silver with glazed back. Outside of band with step.

OUTER CASE (A): Silver, plain. HM London 1774. Maker's mark 'H B', in rectangular cameo with zig-zag edge.
