Quarter repeating verge watch in four colour gold consular case, said to have belonged to Fanny Burney.

MOVEMENT: Full plate movement engraved 'Boucher A PARIS No 497'. Balance bridge pierced and chased, rim engraved, polished steel coquette, conical sapphire (?) end stone. Polished steel balance. Engraved around escap. hole. Silver regulation dial, radial Arabic figures 1 to 7, 'R' and 'A' at ends. Cock for top fusee pivot. Plain foot of counter-potance. On plate engraved scale marked 'L' and 'V'. Rectangular fusee iron post. Polished steel case bolt in brass edge with nib under dial. Adjustable potance, between repeating barrel and hour rack. Counter-potance with polished steel end plate and adjustment screw. Repeating spring end outside barrel. Pillar plate with four turned pillars, centre and third wheel recessed. Second wheel and four wheels of runners recessed. Fusee and chain, set-up click under barrel, barrel with one lip. Verge escapement. Train planted anti-clockwise. Runners, five pinions, depthing pinion. Runner planted anti-clockwise.

REPEATING WORK: 1/4 mechanism. Chain repeating rack, chain over pulley. Hour snail mounted under all-or-nothing piece. Polished steel, French work. Pulse piece.

BRASS EDGE: Screwed to pillar plate. Outside engraved. Scratched under dial, next to joint 'D Vicod 12' and on dial screw tongue 'Gofictu'.

DIAL: White enamel on copper, counter enamel scored '12'. Minute ring of radial strokes, set of 4 gold dots at hours, vertical gold Arabic figures at quarters, vertical Arabic chapters. Winding hole at 2 o'clock, screw securing dial at 9 o'clock.

HANDS: Gold, breguet style.

CASE: Four gold consular, back with oval scene of a pair of doves over a pillar altar with quiver of arrows in front. Inside maker's mark 'JG' over 'A'. Imported French marks for after 1838, date letter for 1770, and stamps of Julien Alatere for gold (1768-1775) and '3279', also scratched 'Chauibwril a miciurd au 1808'. Pendant top stamped with imported French marks for after 1838, oval bow. Pulse piece in bezel.

STORAGE BOX (A): Brown leather (Russian), red velvet lined body, cream silk lining in lid.
