A Scrap from Cupid's Library Valentine card
Publisher: Dobbs, Henry
White lace-paper 'front' (border with design of classical urns) mounted onto a slightly larger piece of pink wove paper. A central panel with 'fretwork' corners and lower border is mounted with a collage of cut-paper and hand-coloured flowers and leaves with stencilled additions. Some of the flowers and leaves lift up to reveal a hand-written message in black ink (by the sender): 'Thee and only thee can I love'. A hand-written title in blue ink (created by Henry Dobbs) at upper centre: 'A Scrap from Cupid's Library'. Affixed below are a silver paper dove and novelty, lithographed music book with printed direction and verse as part of the music: 'with Tenderness / but sprightly / Oh! / I should like to marry, / if that I could find any little / partner suited to my mind'. 'DOBBS' stamped at lower centre.
