Lacquer box, helmet box. Helmet box, lacquer with silver mounts. The box is of cylindrical form with grooved body and seated lid (A), and resting on three bracket feet. The black ground is sprinkled in gold nashiji (shimmering spangles) of varying density, and is finely decorated in hiramakie (low-relief sprinkled design) in gold of two tone with paulownia, entwining branches, leaves and tendrils with sprays of flowers in cut-silver foil. Three silver metal ring handles are fitted onto the lower section and attached to each of these is a brown silk cord with two ochre silk tassels. The three lacquer bracket feet are protected with silver metal fittings finely tooled with scrolling foliage. The interior and the base are in nashiji.
