Description

Lacquer box, tea jar. Box, lacquer with mother of pearl, with lid (A). Cylindrical box with deep sides. The black roiro ground (black lacquer polished to a deep gloss) is decorated on the lid and sides in gold, silver and mother of pearl in takamakie (high-relief sprinkled design) and heidatsu (cut sheet gold or silver applied to a lacquer base) with hydrangeas. The interior is roiro with a hydrangea head and three leaves in gold, silver and mother-of-pearl asymmetrically placed in the lid. The base is roiro.
