Glass lampwork with moulded base, and pincered details. Oval open trellis work body with an applied handle at each end, standing on oval honeycomb-moulded base with a high kick.

Note

Accessioned as English, possibly Low Countries, c.1750, and later described as Spanish. Reattributed to Liège in 1978 exhibition catalogue.

Baskets of this type, probably for fruit, are thought to have been made in Spain, Bohemia, the Southern Netherlands, and England. Some may have formed part of table centres. A design in the Zoude Catalogue, Namur, about 1762 depicts one on top of a column with arms to hold smaller baskets at intervals down its sides.
