Description

Hard paste porcelain, relief-moulded, covered with a greyish blue glaze, and painted in black, iron red and pale red enamels, and gold. Modelled in the shape of a bird in flight. The rounded sides rest on a high foot. The bird's features and plumage detailed in gold, red and black with a pale iron red wash. The edge is gilt. The underside is decorated with two shells and two artemisia leaves with ribbons, and the foot with "silkworm" motif all in iron red.

Note

The footring is applied separately, not moulded. The feathers are moulded in detail but the moulded head is that of an egret. The painting is very accurate and of high quality. There are pinholes. There is slight oxidation.
