Dark pinkish buff terracotta, hand modelled and tooled. Faith sits on a rectangular slab. She has a bare feet, a long robe and a mantle draped over her head and arms, and down to ground at the back. Her right arm, lacking the hand, is raised, and her head and gaze are turned towards it. With her left hand she holds the top of a circular portrait medallion of Cardinal Lelio Falconieri in profile to the right. It is supported from below by a putto, who turns his head away from it and leans backwards. The figures rest on an oval base with concave curved sides. The back is roughly finished with daubs of clay and finger marks.

His is one of six known models for the figure of Faith on Ercole Ferrata's monument to Cardinal Lelio Falconieri in S. Giovanni dei Fiorentini in Rome. In an inventory of Ferrata's studio there were three models for Faith, two by him, and one by Melchiore Cafà. It has been suggested by Andrea Bacchi (1996) and Jennifer Montague (letter, 2000 and 2006) that the Fitzwilliam's model, which differs from the finished work in having the right leg forward instead of the left, was by Cafà.
