Soft-paste porcelain figure of a gardener holding a pot of flowers and a spade, painted in polychrome enamels.
Soft-past porcelain figure of a gardener, painted onglaze in red, yellow, green, turquoise, pink and lilac enamels, and a small amount of gilding. The concave underside is glazed, and has a small circular ventilation hold near the back. The roughly circular base has shallow sides and is applied with three groups of flowers and leaves: on the left, one flower, one bud and two leaves; at the front, one flower one bud and four leaves, and on the right one flower and one leaf.At the back is a tree stump with two flowers, two buds and four leaves applied to the viewer's left side.
The gardener stands on his right leg with his left apart and slightly behind him. He holds a flower pot filled with flowers in his right arm, and rests his left hand on the handle of a spade in front of him. His cheeks are shaded in pink and he has red lips. He wears a tricorn hat with a yellow crown and purple brim with a flower applied to the front. His greyish-purple hair is long, and is tied back into a queu with a pale red bow. He wears a white shirt, a pink jacket with a yellow lining and cuffs, and a yellow flower in a buttonhole; white breeches with a pattern of green circles and pink squiggles, and purple bows at the knees. His purple shoes have very small gold buckles. A voluminous striped bag with a purple bow on it is attached to his waist at the front. The spade is pale purple with a pale brown handle, and the flower pot, complete with hole in its base, is pale brown with multi-coloured flowers.
