Description

Soft-paste porcelain punch bowl, decorated with a view of King's College Chapel, Cambridge in underglaze blue, sepia enamels and gilt.

Soft-paste porcelain punch bowl, decorated in underglaze blue, sepia enamels and gilding. Circular with deep curved sides, standing on a footrim. The inside is decorated in the centre with a circular medallion in sepia showing a view of King's College Chapel, Cambridge, enclosed by an underglaze blue band overlaid with gilt circles. Round the rim is a wide underglaze blue band which is gilt with panels of spiralling leaf sprays with triangular motifs below, and interspersed with four small oval medallions painted with country house en grisaille. The outside of the bowl has an underglaze blue ground reserved with two large gilt-edged oval medallions painted in sepia with picturesque views, which are separated by smaller circular landscape medallions and interspersed with gilt leaf sprays.
