Description

Soft-paste porcelain, slip-cast, lead-glazed, and painted in green, yellow, pink, purple and pale brown enamels, and gilt. The base is pierced by an oval hole. The figure is seated on a low, shaped base with a lightly scrolled and striated edge picked out in gold. She is bare-footed and with both hands holds on her lap a small bucket-shaped jar filled with grapes and foliage. She wears a pink broad-brimmed hat with yellow bow on the left side. A pink dress with a low neck, and elbow-length sleaves and a white apron. Round her neck she has a yellow bow. In a set of four figures representing the Seasons.

Note

This figure and its three companion Seasons were based on Meissen prototypes, and were attributed to Longton Hall. It has been suggested that they were probably made by the Vauxhall Porcelain Factory, about 1753-55, see Documentation, Spero and Massey
