Description

Hard-paste porcelain painted in enamels and gilded

Hard-paste porcelain, painted in blue, green, yellow, red, pale purple, brown, grey and black enamels and gilt. The vase and figure stand on a low approximately circular base painted on the front with green, and grey strokes. The round vase has an aperture on the shoulder, and rises up in the centre to a shaped tray which supports a small fire. The exterior of the vase is ridged vertically and draped with rocaille ornament painted in purple and gold. The fire and sticks are coloured naturalistically. The young man kneels on his right leg on the shoulder of the vase, and has his left leg on the ground. His right arm is extended behind him, and his left is bent in front of him. He has a green hat with turned up sides decorated to resemble ermine, and a red feather attached to the crown. He has a blue coat with pale yellow cuffs and lining and gold buttons, a purple necktie, a white waistcoat with gold buttons, brown trousers, and black shoes with skates attached.
