Description

Bone china decorated with a nymph child playing a pipe in blue, pale green, dark pink, and pale brown enamels, dark blue ground colour, and etched, transfer-printed, and hand-applied gilding.

Bone china decorated with blue, pale green, dark pink, and pale brown enamels, dark blue ground colour, and etched, transfer-printed, and hand-applied gilding. Octagonal with a slightly raised edge, almost flat rim, and shallow well with curved sides. In the middle is a nymph child playing a pipe. She wears a dark pink, off-one shoulder tunic, and ablue headband. A narrow blue drape billows out to the left of her and curves round to the end on the right. She stands on a vine branch. The edge of the well is encircled by a row of gold dots and a broad gold band etched with Greek Key pattern. The dark blue rim is printed with a repeating design comprising paired outward floriated scrolls with a flower on a stalk between them, and pairs of swags with a circular pendant between them. There are three hand-gilded lines on the rim, with crosses at the angles and halfway along the straight sides.
