Parrot with Bocage
Factory: Bow Porcelain Manufactory
Soft-paste porcelain containing bone ash, figure of a Parrot with Bocage, press-moulded, with hand-modelled details, painted over very slightly turquoise-tinted lead-glaze in polychrome enamels, and gilt.
Soft-paste porcelain containing bone ash, figure of a Parrot with Bocage, press-moulded, with hand-modelled details, painted over very slightly turquoise-tinted lead-glaze in pale blue, yellowish-green, bluish-green, yellow, dark pink, orange-red, and a little black enamel, and gilt. The underside is concave and has a small ventilation hole below the figure. The circular base has incurved sides with four circular holes at the front, and one at the side, and on at centre back, probably for an attachment. Its scrolled edges form five low supports. At the back there is a tree with three long trunks linked by smaller branches bearing polychrome flowers and leaves which form a broad oval bocage. In front of it there is a tree stump surrounded by applied flowers and leaves on which perches a parrot with its head on the viewer's left, looking to the front. It has plumage of two shades of green with orange-red tail feathers, an orange-red area above its beak and black eyes. The base is picked out in green and gold.
