Gold, diamonds and portrait miniature. Hinged bracelet with flange and socket fastening. Repoussé decoration of wavy line with vertical foliate panels with stylised rose at the centre. At the centre of the bracelet, with scrolled frame set with four faceted diamonds in 'cut-down' setting, a miniature portrait of Mrs Marlay on ivory, perhaps by John Wright (c. 1760-1820). On the back of the centre panel is inscribed: AN OFFERING OF GRATITUDE FOR UNPRECEDENTED KINDNESS surrounding a plinth with a wreath and a fire on top.
History note: Catherine Louisa Augusta Marlay was the daughter of James Tisdall, Esq. of Bawn, Co. Louth, Ireland and of his wife Catherine Maria, afterwards Countess of Charville. She married Lt. Col. George Marlay of Belvedere, Co. Westmeath and of Bawn, Co. Louth. She was the mother of C.B. Marlay, the testator.
