Fritware coated in a white glaze painted with lustre
Fritware, mould made, coated in a white glaze painted with lustre.
Shape: lion seated on a rectangular plinth. A handle and spout protrude from the upper back.
Decoration: all decoration is painted in lustre. On the face and neck painted features comprise eyes, nose, whiskers and a beaded collar with connecting harness that is formed into a spout and handle. The legs, shoulders and haunches are outlined with thick lines of lustre, forming panels that contain roughly drawn circles, at times containing cross hatching, on a background of dots and dashes. This design continues on the body where it is joined by two medallions on the back containing birds painted in reserve. The plinth is only partially covered with glaze on which dots or lines and circles of lustre are roughly painted.
